Ruby Smith, 23, studies MA Textiles at the Royal College of Art. She will graduate this summer.
Describe your art in 3 words.
graphic, craft, social commentary

What inspires you?
I’m inspired by the unwavering adoration of teen girls towards celebrities. Especially when society takes pleasure in undermining girls for their interests, as if they are somehow embarrassing. I feel very thankful to the friends I have made online and at concerts. I hope to live my life with the same passion and tenderness.

What do you hope to be doing in 5 years’ time?
In the future I hope I’ll be working as a freelance artist/designer and have my own studio. In my work I use a lot of bold imagery alongside typical craft practices and would love to continue to develop this process further.

Sarah Alagroobi, 28, is on the MA Painting course at the Royal College of Art. She will graduate this summer.
Describe your art in 3 words.
Dynamic, spontaneous, controlled.

What inspires you?
Inspiration comes in all forms so it is hard to pinpoint exactly what inspires me, that can differ from day to day it could be a simple word, a conversation, or a texture. But mostly my inspiration is drawn from my curiosity to uncover my identity so a lot of my work speaks on the notions of culture, religion, and ethnicity.

What do you hope to be doing in 5 years’ time?
I hope to continue developing as an artist and as a human being, with every work that I make I slowly reveal nuances in myself that I never knew existed, it’s a path of self-discovery and self-reflection so my hope is that I continue to be as reflective as I am now with the ability to internalise other’s thoughts and opinions about work - which in essence is about myself.
